Does EMS work? Of course it does.

EMS Training is a scientifically backed, dynamic and powerful global movement and the UK fitness market is rapidly accepting this futuristic and time-efficient training solution as the new norm.

  • What is Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS)?
EMS is the elicitation of muscle contraction using electric impulses. The impulses are generated by a device and delivered through electrodes to the skin surface above the muscles to be stimulated. The impulses cause the muscles to contract, so the result is similar to the actual movement and regular contractions of the muscles. Technically, EMS is a full body workout with body current. Our muscles contract through electric impulses in normal state. EMS Training makes use of this effect, the natural effect is additionally intensified and an effective training can be achieved. EMS Training is also known in competitive sport, rehabilitation and medicine as well as in wellness and beauty centers. Elite athletes use Electric Muscle Stimulation in addition to their training in order to improve strength and speed.
  • Does EMS work? And How?
During any normal kind of movement, you've got three types of muscle fibres available to you: 1, 2a and 2b. Type 1 involves, for example, picking up a glass - you can do it all day and it's more about endurance. Type 2a might be recruited if you were picking up a chair and moving it around (requiring a bit more strength and explosive power but also endurance). Type 2b would be recruited if you were picking up something heavy that you could only hold for a few seconds. The magic with the EMS technology is that it's able to recruit type 2a and 2b muscle fibres without type 1s, just through the technology, because as soon as you add about 80 hertz and 350 millivolts of power, you're activating these deep type 2b muscle fibres. Crucially, these 2b muscle fibres are what we need to train to build lean muscle tissue, which, in turn, improves metabolism. However, developing these fibres usually takes a lot of time, perhaps two to three months before you're fit enough to train under that kind of load (lift those types of weights, run that fast, etc). What EMS means is that people who hate exercise can use XBody to reduce their time spent groaning, affect changes in their bodies they probably wouldn't have been able to with conventional methods and get brilliant results. It can allow athletes to push very hard in a short timeframe and, at the other end of the spectrum, it can be used for rehabilitation (though if you've got a pacemaker, suffer from epilepsy or are pregnant you're advised to avoid it entirely).
